Liz West is a British artist known for her wide-ranging works, from the intimate to the monumental. Using a variety of materials and exploring the use of light, she blurs the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, design and painting to create works that are both playful and immersive.
West creates vivid environments that mix luminous colour and radiant light. West aims to provoke a heightened sensory awareness in the viewer through her works. She is interested in exploring how sensory phenomena can invoke psychological and physical responses that tap into our own deeply entrenched relationships to colour. West's investigation into the relationship between colour and light is often realised through an engagement between materiality and a given site. Our understanding of colour can only be realised through the presence of light. By playing and adjusting colour, West brings out the intensity and composition of her spatial arrangements.
Celebrated for her mastery of light and colour, debuts her latest creation inspired by Westfield London's iconic triangular roof structure. Suspended in the grand oval aperture, this three-dimensional colour wheel transforms triangular prisms into a cascading spectrum. The installation is a vivid celebration of light, reflection and sensory engagement. Visitors are drawn into a kaleidoscope of hues, experiencing the subtle interplay of light and shadow as they navigate around and beneath the artwork. West's installation exemplifies her deep exploration of the emotional and psychological connections to colour, leaving an indelible impression on all who experience it.
West has been commissioned worldwide by institutions and organisations including Natural History Museum, London Design Festival, Paris Fashion Week, Milan Design Week, National Trust, National Science and Media Museum, Dubai Design Week, Natural England, Salford University, Fortnum & Mason for London Design Festival and Bristol Biennial. West’s work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Farol Santander São Paulo, Jodhpur Art Week India, Hyvinkää Art Museum Finland, St Albans Museum + Gallery, Chester Cathedral, Bangalore International and Centre and Musée Nissim de Camondo in Paris; and group exhibitions at Trapholt Denmark, Kraftwerk Berlin, Tripostal Lille and Compton Verney.

What’s your favourite store at Westfield London and why? There are so many, it's impossible to choose. I appreciate and enjoy variation and choice rather than picking a favourite.
Where’s your favourite place to stop for a bite during the chillier months at Westfield London? Again, there is too much choice. But being a Manchester girl, I will always return to Rudy's pizza (founded in Ancoats, Manchester). For a sweet treat I will always choose Tiramisu.
What is one thing you wish you had more time to do? I wish for nothing more than for time to relax (other parents of small children will empathise)
What place, even if you don’t live there now, has always felt like your home? I miss Glasgow (where I went to Art School) and feel I left a part of myself there. The place I feel 100% myself and am excited to return to time and time again is a little seaside town in Suffolk (no names - I'm not giving the secret away).
What’s your favourite thing about winter in London? The hospitality offering in London is amazing and offers so much inspiration. From the festive outdoor lights to the cosy interiors (shops, restaurants, hotels etc), there is always reason to return.
Which store or brand is your go-to for a last minute gift at Westfield London? I am very well prepared at Christmas and have never done last-minute shopping. I have everything sorted by the end of November.
Best winter purchase this season? A berry red cashmere scarf from John Lewis (very necessary in this chilly weather).
