History
For over 50 years, Santa Clara Valley has enjoyed the wide array of distinctive stores at Westfield Valley Fair. In 1956, R.H. Macy & Co. built Valley Fair as an open-air shopping center with 65 boutique shops and Macy’s as the primary department store. The original Macy’s was renowned for its amenities including a rooftop restaurant, Ferris wheel and other amusement park rides.
By 1963, The Hahn Company presided over Valley Fair and acquired Stevens Creek Plaza, the neighboring shopping center, offering The Emporium and I. Magnin department stores. With the community’s overwhelming response to the expanded center, Macy’s added a second floor to their store and removed the amusement park Valley Fair was named after.
In 1986, Hahn connected Macy’s with the rest of the shopping center and transformed the complex into an indoor facility. 50 stores were added to the center, plus an exclusive Nordstrom. A major revitalization updated the interior of Valley Fair during 1997 before Westfield purchased the center one year later. In 2001, Westfield expanded the offerings of Valley Fair with 50 specialty stores and a new Nordstrom.
Today, Westfield Valley Fair is the largest shopping center of its kind in Northern California with more than 250 specialty stores. The center continues to reflect the exceptional quality of the South Bay as the region’s premier shopping destination.
