Westfield Valencia Town Center, which opened in 1992, was built as part of Newhall Land’s master plan community of Valencia. The property created Town Center Drive, an outdoor lifestyle mixed use component in 1998 with the addition of a new entertainment plaza, office space, shopping and dining. In 2001, Newhall Land sold the office buildings, 2 parking structures and a portion of the retail to Calstrs. In 2002, an expansion was completed inside the main center which involved the relocation of the food court and smaller shops. Located in the City of Santa Clarita, the mall serves as the gathering place or “town center” of the community. In February of 2005, Westfield Corporation and LNR Property Corporation acquired the shopping center, each with 50% ownership.
