| In 1964, Topanga Plaza opened as the first enclosed shopping center west of the Mississippi River “for year-round spring time.” This state-of-the-art center, owned by May Centers/Centermark Properties, boasted more than 80 stores and May Company, Broadway and Montgomery Ward department stores. In addition to these shops, the two-level center featured the Topanga Plaza Ice Arena. The center was expanded with a new Nordstrom in 1983 and a modern food court in place of the ice arena. Acquired by Westfield in 1993, Topanga Plaza became Westfield Topanga and underwent a renovation after the 1994 Northridge earthquake. In 2005, Westfield completed a major revitalization featuring a new Nordstrom, two-level Target and 100 new boutiques. The center also welcomed Neiman Marcus in 2008. Today, Westfield Topanga serves as the San Fernando Valley’s premier shopping destination with over 250 specialty shops and dining establishments covering over 1.5 million square feet. |
