Westfield Santa Anita opened in 1974 as the "Santa Anita Fashion Park". From the beginning, it was a landmark shopping destination and gathering place for the entire San Gabriel Valley. And, as this community prospered, the Fashion Park updated itself to meet the needs of its increasingly affluent customers. The first major renovation occurred in 1988. There have been five major upgrades since then. The Promenade will be the sixth.
1994 saw the addition of Macy's and Nordstrom and a strong indicator of the increased buying power of the community. In 1998, Westfield acquired the fashion center, and within two years attained entitlements from the city of Arcadia for a 600,000 square foot expansion. By 2004, there was a Dave and Busters, a state-of-the-art AMC multiplex cinema, a new food court, and 30 new specialty shops. A Cheesecake Factory and H&M store followed soon thereafter. By 2006, Westfield Santa Anita had become a fully appointed shopping, dining, and entertainment complex.
In October 2007, construction began on The Promenade, an upscale, open air shopping and dining village that will also provide a shady, pedestrian path between Macy’s and Nordstrom. The Promenade will be a lushly landscaped enclave separate from the rest of the center and a place for people who need all the amenities of a high end shopping center in an easier, more tranquil environment.
