First 5 California Presents Healthy New Year's Goals Fit For The Whole Family
First 5 California offers the following tips to help your family make – and keep – its New Year’s resolutions:
- Set goals that are attainable. Challenge your family to play a sport or take a walk together at least once a week.
- Start small. Rather than abruptly changing your family’s diet, begin by serving smaller portions and substituting one dish at a time for healthier options.
- Turn your resolutions into fun challenges to keep your children interested and involved. For example, challenge your children to eat different colored fruit every day, and each time they do, allow them to mark a chart with fun stickers or crayons.
- Celebrate milestones to encourage everyone to keep going throughout the year. Reward regular fitness each month with a family-friendly outing, like visiting your local zoo.
