Westfield Old Orchard exudes a pleasing balance between the center’s resourceful architecture and inspired landscaping. The original property’s architects, Loebl, Schlossman and Hackl of Chicago, collaborated with Development Design Group and landscape architect Ives/Ryan Group, Inc. to harmonize the new design with the mall’s original, garden-like character.

Their accomplished design transformed the existing open-air shopping center into an array of richly landscaped, highly-ornamental garden spaces. Each court offers unique amenities, including smooth paving, warm lighting, shimmering fountains and park-like seating. Decorative stone and original sculpture subtly enhance the natural setting.

The spring planting includes 11,000 pansies throughout the grounds. During the summer, 70,000 annual flowers bloom in a dazzling display of color. For fall, more than 140,000 tulip bulbs are planted to blossom in spring.

Seating around the glimmering Koi pond invites shoppers to sit, relax and enjoy the tranquility of these Japanese symbols of good fortune. During the winter months, the Koi are cared for in an indoor aquarium until spring arrives.
