Commitment to the environment and sustainability is key for Westfield as a global retail property developer, and nowhere more so that our flagship UK centre, Westfield London. In order to achieve the highest practical standards of energy efficiency and low carbon emissions, a combination of passive and technology driven measures have been incorporated into the design of the development. Improvements to the centre have resulted in reduced carbon emissions in excess of 20% compared to the original design that was granted planning permission.

• Glazed roof design which will provide excellent natural lighting;
• Acquisition of timber from auditable sustainable sources, as well as the use of 50% recycled material where appropriate;
• Rainwater harvesting;
• Facilities for waste separation and recycling;
• A nature reserve;
• Provision of pedestrian and cycle routes, with 570 cycle bays in total; and
• Solar power to provide over 20% of the energy required to power the new White City bus station.
