Construction Progress
The skyline continues to change with the removal of more tower cranes. In the middle of the development is the Pavilion with its iconic roof, which is now structurally complete and glazed. The support scaffolding from beneath the Pavilion roof is progressively being removed to reveal the vast open space beneath and white tree-like support structures.
Mall roofs to the east of the site are now complete and, looking up from the two-tiered shopping area, the complex undulating glass roof, composed of triangular panels, is most striking. The shop unit shells are being formed and primary services are being installed prior to fit-out works. Marble floor on both eastern mall levels is substantially complete and work has started to lay the patterned feature granite.
The 103,000 sq fit House of Fraser store, located above Waitrose and close to the Southern Interchange, will be split over three levels and will house a large collection of men’s and women’s fashion, beauty, shoes, lingerie, homewares, a Café Nero, and a technology department.
John King, Chief Executive at House of Fraser, said: “With the scheme opening later this year, the wait for a truly world-class shopping centre is over. Our new store not only reflects this in terms of design and architecture, but also in the line-up of brands and experiences which we are introducing to the development.”
Other anchor stores, including Next, Debenhams and Waitrose, will also begin their fit-out over the upcoming weeks.
